About Seralune: Habitat Futures
Plan a small landscape with more than one good future. Seralune: Habitat Futures gives you three habitat patches, a short seasonal schedule and a limited intervention budget. Each scenario asks for its own mosaic of open, shrub and woodland cover. Your goal is to meet that particular brief, rather than turn every patch into woodland.
Read the soil, shade and seed-bank indicators, then plan one intervention or Wait in each season. Enrich soil, add seeds, add shade, cut back cover or protect a patch from an announced disturbance. Every choice updates the end-of-plan forecast, so you can compare the predicted cover with each patch’s target before checking.
Explore 180 scenarios across Small Seasons, Mosaic Plans and Long View. The courses use two, three and four seasonal rounds, with finite intervention points and known disturbance schedules. Edit any season, undo a change or request a hint toward a valid plan that preserves as many of your choices as possible. Every plan that satisfies the final targets and budget is accepted.
The seasons and numeric thresholds are original teaching rules, not calibrated restoration methods or real ecological growth times. The model makes soil, shade, seeds and disturbance relationships visible while treating open habitat as a valuable possible goal.

How to Play Seralune: Habitat Futures
Choose Small Seasons (Easy), Mosaic Plans (Medium) or Long View (Hard). Each course contains 60 scenarios. Easy has two seasons and one or two intervention points, Medium has three seasons and two points, and Hard has four seasons and three points.
Read each patch’s initial cover, soil, shade and seed-bank units. Indicators range from 0 to 2. Check the exact end-cover target and the announced disturbance schedule.
Choose a season slot, select a habitat patch and choose an intervention. Wait costs no points. Enrich soil, Add seeds, Add shade, Cut back and Protect patch each cost one point. You can edit any slot; the full end forecast updates immediately. An over-budget plan remains visible for revision but cannot succeed.
The model runs intervention first, then announced disturbance, then establishment. Unprotected disturbance lowers cover one step, soil by one and shade by one. Open becomes shrub when soil and seeds are at least one and shade is at most one. Shrub becomes woodland when soil is two, seeds are at least one and shade is at least one. Establishment consumes one seed unit and changes cover at most once per patch per season. Cut back lowers cover and shade one step and blocks establishment there for that season. Protect prevents the announced disturbance on that patch for that season only.
Match every patch’s final cover within the budget, then Check plan. Undo revisits a schedule edit, Reset restores Wait in every slot and Hint suggests a change toward a closest valid completion without applying it. Checks and hint use remain recorded after Undo or Reset.
Desktop: press A–C to select a patch and 1–6 to choose the corresponding numbered action. Use Left and Right arrows to choose the season to edit. Enter checks the plan or continues after success, Z undoes an edit, R clears the plan, H requests a hint and M toggles sound. Escape closes help. Tab and Enter activate on-screen controls normally.
Mobile: tap a season, choose a patch using the 3D islands or patch buttons, then tap an action card. The diorama always shows the end-of-plan forecast; the selected season’s indicators and field notes show that season’s before-and-after changes. Use the on-screen Undo, Clear plan, Hint, Check and sound controls.
Earn three stars with no unsuccessful checks or hints, two stars with up to two unsuccessful checks and no hints, or one star for any completed scenario. Undo and Clear plan preserve check history and hint use. Over-budget plans cannot be checked until their intervention cost is reduced. Your best stars are retained when you replay a scenario.
