About Bittern Binaryworks
Build bright little signals with Bittern Binaryworks, a 3D number puzzle set on a miniature lantern switchboard. A friendly bittern engineer presents a decimal target. Your job is to turn the correct weighted switches on and off until their total matches it exactly.
Every switch has a power-of-two value. A lit 8 switch adds eight, a lit 16 adds sixteen, and an unlit switch contributes nothing. The live total, target, binary readout, and remaining mismatched bits make the relationship between decimal numbers and binary place value easy to explore. Later puzzles begin with some lanterns already lit, so you must decide which values to remove as well as which to add.
There are 60 distinct challenges in each difficulty: Sparks uses six bits, Signals uses eight, and Beacons uses ten. All 180 starting states have verified solutions. Work without a timer, undo individual flips, request a contextual hint, or revisit any level. Campaign progress is saved locally when available. The animated bird, tactile switch modules, and workshop props are built in Blender and bundled with the game. Enjoy soft sound effects with a mute toggle and play using touch, mouse, or keyboard.
How to Play Bittern Binaryworks
- Choose Sparks, Signals, or Beacons difficulty and select Let’s play.
- Read the decimal Target and Current total.
- Tap a 3D switch to turn it on or off. A lit switch contributes its printed power-of-two value.
- Match the target exactly. The bottom status line shows the current binary number.
- Use Button controls for a labeled switch grid. Mouse and touch work directly on the board; arrow keys select and Space/Enter flips. Tab and Enter work on buttons.
- Use Hint, Undo, and Restart as needed, then choose Next level after success. Each difficulty has 60 challenges. H hints, U undoes, R restarts, and Sound on/off mutes audio.
